Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process through which adults join the Catholic Church.  It is a journey of conversion which concentrates on the total formation of the individual – in doctrine, prayer and faith-sharing, scripture, liturgy and ritual, and apostolic service.

Those preparing for initiation are invited to deepen their awareness of God’s grace in their lives, and to prepare for living as full members of the parish community. The process is divided into four basic stages or periods:  Inquiry (or Precatechumenate), Catechumenate, Purification and Enlightenment, and Mystagogy.  Each period has its own special character and content, and concludes with a major liturgical celebration or “rite.”

While the entire parish community participates in the rites, praying with and for the candidates, weekly sessions in each of the four periods are conducted by a team of parish staff and parishioners who support the pastor in this very important evangelization effort.

The first step in this process is the period of inquiry, which gives interested persons an opportunity to learn more about our parish community, our Catholic faith, and our God.  Holy Spirit Parish hosts sessions starting in late September.  All are welcome to participate and ask questions in a warm setting with no commitment required.

If you are interested in becoming a catechist, a sponsor, or volunteering in another way for this ministry, please contact the Parish Office at 614-861-1521.
